Zimbabwean teenager Knowledge Musona snatched a late winner as Kaizer Chiefs came from behind to pip SuperSport United 2-1 Sunday in the glamour first round clash of the South African Cup.

Musona settled a fiery showdown between champions SuperSport and League Cup holders Chiefs on 88 minutes at Rand Stadium by rounding two defenders before drilling a low shot past Ugandan goalkeeper Denis Onyango at his near post.

Chiefs dominated the first half territorially without seriously troubling a SuperSport side severely depleted by injuries and fell behind three minutes before half-time. United caught their opponents napping with a slick free kick manoeuvre and Letlodi Madubanya slid the ball into the net when veteran goalkeeper Arthur Bartman failed to clear a low cross.

After torrential rain, hail and lightning delayed the start of the second half by 15 minutes, Chiefs continued to apply pressure and levelled on 64 minutes through a Mthokozisi Yende drive into the corner of the net.

With just eight weeks until the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, the pressure is mounting on Carlos Alberto Parreira, the man who has been tasked with moulding one of the host nation’s most prized assets: the country’s national football team. It will be Bafana Bafana’s biggest moment in their history, and they couldn’t have a more experienced coach at their helm.

Parreira’s worries spread further than just preparing the team for the field of play. He has to manage expectations within South Africa on the team’s performance during the the finals. Top of his priority list is to get the team beyond their opening group and into the knockout rounds, and though he looks calm when talking to FIFA.com he compares that task to “climbing Mount Everest.” South Africa will open their FIFA World Cup campaign against Mexico in front of a packed Soccer City in Johannesburg on 11 June. They will then face the rest of Group A: Uruguay and France.

When he joined South Africa on his second stint as a coach following the “amicable” departure of his countryman, Joel Santana, Parreira has had to contend with a lot of things, one of them being a team in need of purpose, confidence and composure. He inherited a side that had lost eight games on a trot and had been troubled by both injuries and self-doubt. Injuries you can heal, but self-doubt, as one proverb suggests, “might be chronic.” South Africa World Cup Tickets are now available online.

South Africa’s preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ suffered a jolt overnight Sunday when they slid to a 2-1 loss to a team comprising reserve players of Brazilian side Santos.

Katlego Mphela was on target for the Bafana Bafana (The Boys) but Marcelo and Breitner saw Santos run out narrow winners in Sao Paulo.

Carlos Alberto Parreira’s South Africans recently held a three-week training camp in Brazil as they prepare for the first World Cup to be hosted on African soil. Last Wednesday they held Paraguay 1-1 at Asuncion.

They will move on to another training camp in Germany later this month before returing to South Africa in May to complete preparations for the World Cup opener against Mexico in Johannesburg on June 11.

France and Uruguay are the two other teams in South Africa’s group. South Africa World Cup Tickets are now available online.

Hosts South Africa’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup™ were dealt a setback on Wednesday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Namibia. Ranked 111th in the world by FIFA, Namibia shocked the hosts by taking the lead in the 41st minute before Katlego Mphela’s equaliser 20 minutes from time saved Bafana Bafana’s blushes.

The result maintained coach Carlos Alberto Parreira’s unbeaten record in his second stint at the helm but South Africa should have won the match comfortably after dominating possession. Namibia’s head coach Tom Saintfelt admitted he was pleased with the result but felt that they were unlucky not to hold on to the lead.

“I’m disappointed because we were leading with 20 minutes to go,” he said. “We created some great opportunities but I didn’t see so many from Bafana Bafana in the first half. We knew it would be hard after the break but it was only one mistake that allowed them to score.” South Africa dominated possession in the first half but were mainly restricted to shots from outside the area, with captain Teko Modise forcing two saves from Athiel Mbaha in the 16th and 30th minutes.

Namibia had looked dangerous on the break and they took the lead four minutes before half-time when Razundara Tjikuzu wrong-footed Bradley Carnell and squared the ball across the area to Maritzburg United’s Bester, who beat Itumeleng Khune with a well-placed shot off the post.

Parreira made five substitutions in the first 15 minutes of the second half as Bafana attempted to draw level and Bloemfontein Celtic’s Tlou Segolela almost found a way through after the hour mark, only for Mbaha to stretch out a foot and divert the ball away from the goal. South Africa eventually equalised 10 minutes later when Reneilwe Letsholanyane’s pass picked out Bryce Moon on the right and he found Mphela, who fired into the net emphatically for his 10th international goal. South Africa World Cup Tickets are now available online.
Didier Drogba has been crowned CAF African Player of the Year for 2009. The Côte d’Ivoire striker saw off competition from Chelsea team-mate Michael Essien of Ghana and Cameroon’s Inter Milan forward Samuel Eto’o, to take the prize at the awards ceremony in Accra last night.

Drogba, who turned 32 yesterday, claimed the honour for the second time in his career having first won it in 2006. Drogba was not present to personally collect the award, with an official of the Ivorian Football Federation collecting it on his behalf.

The Elephants’ frontman, nominated on the final three-man shortlist alongside Essien and Eto’o, succeeds Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor. The winner was decided by votes from the coaches of the national associations affiliated to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Ghana were the other big winners on the night with striker Dominic Adiyiah picking up the Young Player of the Year award ahead of South African Kermit Erasmus of Feyenoord and Nigeria’s Sani Emmanuel from Bodens BK. Sellas Tetteh was named Coach of the Year having led the Black Stars to the FIFA U-20 World Cup title last year.

There was also success for the Democratic Republic of Congo, who scooped the Africa Club of the Year and Best Player on the Continent awards in the form of CAF Champions League winners TP Mazembe and their captain Tresor Mputu Mabi.

2010 FIFA World Cup™ participants Algeria were rewarded for qualifying for the finals for the first time in 24 years and reaching the CAF Africa Cup of Nations last four by being named National Team of the Year.

South Africa will be the first African nation to host FIFA World Cup.

South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has named just two foreign-based players in a 29-man squad that is to spend the next month at a pre-FIFA World Cup™ training camp in Brazil and Germany.

Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Daylon Claasen and Excelsior Rotterdam striker Kermit Erasmus, both part of the FIFA U-20 World Cup squad last year, are the two players who ply their trade abroad to be included, with few surprises amongst the rest of the players on the list. Mamelodi Sundowns (eight) and Orlando Pirates (six) are the most well represented clubs in Parreira’s squad.

Former Newcastle United and Norwich City midfielder Matthew Pattison, currently at Sundowns, saw his hopes of a place at the finals dealt a blow as he was axed despite being part of Bafana Bafana’s recent set-up. His place instead went to Golden Arrows utility player Thanduyise Khuboni, who was man-of-the-match during last night’s lacklustre 1-1 draw against minnows Namibia – a game arranged to mark the start of the 100-day countdown to the finals.

Parreira is convinced that the camp will help the hosts when the tournament kicks off on 11 June. The 1994 FIFA World Cup-winner said: “After Brazil and the camp in Germany next month, we will have a stronger base, be fitter and much better prepared than we were against Namibia where I had one day to work with the squad.

“The camp in Brazil was not easy to organise, but it will lay the foundation for our World Cup preparations. I did the same with Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in the past and the camps were all successful,” he added.

It was also confirmed that South Africa are to play three friendlies prior to the global showpiece. They will meet Paraguay in Asuncion on 31 March at the end of the South American tour, and they follow that up with further games against Argentina at Soccer City on 27 May and Denmark at an unnamed venue on 5 June.

Now you can buy South Africa world cup tickets for the worldcup 2010 online and along with that ticket4football also providing the fans with the facility to get world cup tickets and world cup 2010 tickets, means you can get your football tickets for any event from ticket4football.com.

South Africa are just one game away from reaching the second phase of a FIFA finals for the first time in their history. A solitary point against European champions Spain in their final Group A encounter at the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009 would safeguard their passage to the last four, though even a defeat may not deny them, depending on what happens between section rivals Iraq and New Zealand.

La Roja go into the match having already booked their place in the semi-finals, though they do need at least a point to ensure top spot and therefore avoid a last-four clash with the winners of a fiercely contested Group B. Moreover, Vicente del Bosque’s charges are within touching distance of two world records: drawing level with Brazil’s run of 35 unbeaten internationals; and extending the record of 14 consecutive victories currently jointly held with Australia, France and the Seleção.

Carlos Alberto Gomes Parreira (born February 27, 1943, in Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian football manager.Parreira supports Fluminense, and he has won two important League titles for the club: The First Division Brazilian Championship in 1984 and the Third Division in 1999. About the latter title, Parreira has said that this was personally the most important trophy of his career, even more so than Brazil’s World Cup triumph, as the club he loved was facing near-bankruptcy and became very close to extinction at the time. He is regarded as a hero by Fluminense’s supporters.

Parreira is noted for having been one of only two coaches that has led four national teams to the World Cup: Kuwait in 1982, United Arab Emirates in 1990, Brazil in 1994 and 2006, and Saudi Arabia in 1998. The other coach, Bora Milutinovic, surpassed this record when he led a fifth team in 2002. He was also involved to some extent with the 1970 championship team for Brazil, which he claims was an inspiration for him to aspire to be a national football coach.

In 1997, Parreira coached the MetroStars of the American Major League Soccer. He also coached Fenerbahçe in Turkey and won a Turkish League Championship. Parreira was also in charge of Corinthians in 2002, which gave him two of the most important national trophies of 2002: The Brazilian Cup and the Torneio Rio-São Paulo, besides being runner up at the Brazilian League.

When coaching Saudi Arabia at the 1998 World Cup in France, he was fired after two matches, one of two managers to be sacked during the tournament.

Parreira repeatedly turned down offers to coach Brazil again between 1998 and 2002 World Cups. In end of 2000, when the team was in turmoil after firing Vanderlei Luxemburgo, he refused the post, stating that he did not want to relive the stress and pressure of winning the World Cup again. There were public cries again to replace Luiz Felipe Scolari for Parreira in July 2001 when Brazil lost two matches to Mexico and Honduras in its title defense at the 2001 Copa America in Colombia, specially after the last minute invitee (replacing Argentina who dropped out one day before the kickoff) Honduras defeated 2-0 and eliminated the favorite Brazil in quarterfinals round on July 23, 2001. Through this time period, Parreira, only stated that he would indirectly assist Scolari in 2002 campaign. After the 2002 World Cup, Parreira took part in drafting a technical report of the tournament. He was named coach along with Mario Zagallo as assistant director in January 2003, with the goal of defending their World Cup title in Germany 2006, but on July 1, 2006 the favorite Brazil was defeated and eliminated 0-1 by France in quarterfinals.

After Brazil’s exit from the World Cup, Parreira was heavily criticisized by the Brazilian public and media for playing an outdated brand of football and not using the players available to him properly. Parreira subsequently resigned on July 19, 2006. He coached Brazil to victory in the 1994 FIFA World Cup and was the coach of the South Africa national football team until resigning in April 2008. On October 22, 2009 it was announced he will return as head coach of the South Africa national football team. He announced a verbal agreement with the South African Football Association on October 23, 2009.
There are sixteen clubs in the Premier League. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw. No points are awarded for a defeat.

The champion of the Premier League and the second placed team advance to the MTN CAF Champions League, the third placed team, and the Nedbank Cup champions, advance to the CAF Confederation Cup, which is the African equivalent of the UEFA Europa League.

The bottom team in the ABSA Premiership is automatically relegated. The team finishing 15th on the log enters a playoff with the loser of the promotion playoff between the winner of the Coastal Stream and the Inland Stream and the two teams who ended the season in second spot in the two streams.

The PSL was founded by Kaizer Motaung, Irvin Khoza, Raymond Hack and Jomo Sono, in 1996. Manning Rangers were the first to be crowned champions of the PSL in 1997 when the Gordon Igesund-coached side was stunning all and sundry by winning the title ahead of a number of more fancied opponents. From 1998 to 2000 the league was dominated by Sundowns, who pulled off a hat-trick of titles.

In 2001, Igesund moved to Orlando Pirates and helped the Buccaneers secure the title. The following season he moved to Cape Town-based Santos, and steered it to win the league title, thus becoming the first coach to win the championship with three different clubs.

The 11 April 2001 marked a dark chapter in South African history when 43 people lost their lives and 158 others were injured in a stampede during a match between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at an overcrowded Ellis Park Stadium.

The league was reduced from 18 to 16 teams after the end of the 2001-02 season to avoid fixture congestion, causing two teams, Ria Stars and Free State Stars, to be disbanded.

In 2004, a match-fixing scandal rocked South African soccer. An investigation codenamed “Operation Dribble” was launched by the South African police in June 2004. More than 40 arrests were made, ranging from club bosses to match commissioners, referees and their assistants.

Kaizer Chiefs successfully defended their league title in 2005 after they won the prestigious trophy in 2004 for the first time in a decade. The 2005-06 season saw Mamelodi Sundowns capturing the title for the fourth time.

In 2007, the PSL signed a television deal with SuperSport. Worth R1.6-billion, it is the biggest sporting deal in the history of South Africa, and it took the PSL into the top 15 ranked leagues in the world in terms of commercial broadcast deals. In the same year ABSA replaced Castle Lager as name sponsor. They will be hosting the 19th FIFA World Cup in June 2010 after they hosted the Confederation Cup in 2009. South Africa will be the first African nation to host FIFA World Cup. Now you can buy South Africa world cup tickets for the worldcup 2010 online and along with that ticket4football also providing the fans with the facility to get England world cup tickets and world cup tickets for all the other teams of the tournament. Now world cup 2010 tickets are at a distance of one click from the fan.
